  • Celebrate a 90 Day Success

believeCongratulations on completing your “90 Day Challenge.”

Even if you did not reach your big goal, if you made any progress, it is a step in the right direction and a great starting point to continue on.

Remember a big component of this challenge was to learn lessons you can carry with you throughout your life. Accepting this challenge to make a change is just the beginning.

We know that any personal development work takes effort and commitment. It’s not easy to do better, to experience more of life, to persevere through tough times, to tap into our true personality and passions, to use our unique talents and skills, to change.

During these 90 Days, we had to believe that we could succeed. We had to set goals, adopt new habits, become fearless, overcome procrastination and ask for the support of our friends and community. This was asking for a lot.

The one lesson I hope you learned is that life is always testing us, throwing us curve balls, mountains to climb, new lessons to learn and we can handle them.

So let’s celebrate and begin anew.

Your choice is simple – to recommit to your current challenge or to choose a different goal.

To help you with your new endeavor, I have written an ebook with the posts written during the summer, including success stories and additional tips and techniques.  It is available free for a limited time.

If you are committing to another 90 Day Challenge and want a reference book, please send me an email to request your copy.

  • Adopt a Good Habit

Your road ahead only seems like you are climbing an insurmountable sand dune at first! But regular, small steps will get you there.

You already know why I suggest that adopting a new habit is an integral component of achieving your 90 Day Challenge. But to spell it out……

“A Habit is a routine of behavior that is repeated regularly and tends to occur subconsciously.”  Wikipedia

The obvious key words here – regularly and occur subconsciously.

If only we were already at the subconscious stage but NO not yet. But by  repeating an action over and over again, by taking consistent, small steps daily, we can reach our goal. Our routine can become rote –a habit.

Keeping a record of your 90 Day Challenge experience is so important.  Sitting down every day and writing in your journal, can keep you motivated to keep working towards goal. It’s actually encouraging to read back over your writings to see your progress.

Then, imagine sharing your journey with others. This is my goal on the “ourcommonjourney” blog page.

Here are my 8 steps for adopting a new habit. The 8 steps will be part of our conversation over the next few months.

    -1- Know your WHY

-2-What is your goal  (Should be written by now)

-3- Use affirmations, visualization and meditation (Should be written)

-4- Commit to 90 days – Our challenge

    -5- Make it regular

    -6- Start with small steps

    -7- Plan ahead

-8- Accept a bump in the road.

Next post is about committing to our action plans.

  • Making a Difference for our Planet – intro

green path through trees76,000,000 Aging Boomers can have a tremendous impact on our planet. Since we are expected to live longer than any previous generation, the choices we make about how we age is imperative to ensure continued health of our planet.

While we have been viewed as a selfish generation by some, we can change that attitude by stepping up and making better decisions to live more sustainably.

For ages, the two most common practices of green living are to:

    Reduce, reuse and recycle

    Save Energy

There are so many more ways to live green.  These choices methods and their interconnection to each other are crucial for our own health, our quality of living and the health of the planet.

Some other ways to live green are:

    Living in a green home

    Using non toxic products

Eating low on the food chain

    Shopping responsibly

    Green remodeling

    Being a responsible traveler

    Getting involved

It takes a commitment and focus to change habits which have existed for a long time.  But we know with government intervention we can change. One recent example is the use of re-usable shopping bags. It may have taken awhile to remember to carry our own bags but we got there.

The question is: what will it take for each of us to choose alternative green living techniques on our own rather than what for the government to choose for us?

I will continue to write about simple changes we can choose to “Make a difference for our planet.”
